Carbon Tracker is hosting this webinar as part of Climate Week NYC 2020.

The oil & gas sector have, reluctantly, started to provide increasingly ambitious carbon emission reduction ambitions with carbon intensity reductions, net zero by year X and other bold climate statements in reaction to demand from investors and civil society.

The Covid-19 pandemic wreaked havoc for many oil & gas companies that reacted by cutting 2020 capex but remain focused on comings years project expansion despite multiple analysts have said that fossil fuel demand peaked already in 2019.

Several European oil majors have spent their summer reviewing impairment policies resulting in multi-billion US Dollar upstream asset write-downs, whereas North American oil & gas companies have been waiting on the side line. However, beyond 2020 the oil & gas sector are still planning to invest into new and more upstream oil & gas projects despite making restrictive CO2 emission reduction statements.

This webinar will discuss these issues with experts from Carbon Tracker Initiative and how US institutional investors are viewing these targets announced by oil & gas companies.

Speakers include:

Andrew Grant, Head of Oil, Gas & Mining, Carbon Tracker

Carolina San Martin, Managing Director and Director, ESG Research, Wellington Management

Moderator: Carlos Anchondo, Oil and Gas Reporter at E&E News
