This joint Chatham House, E3G and Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA) event for London Climate Action Week will explore the UK’s domestic progress and its international influence on the coal phase-out.
The discussion will consider the UK’s recent experience moving from a coal-dominated power system to its first #CoalFreeFortnight in June 2019 and towards a completely coal-free power system by 2025. It will also discuss the opportunities for the UK to help raise global ambition on coal phase-out through diplomacy, finance and policy and technical knowledge exchange in partnership with its international and private sector partners from the PPCA and beyond.
Carbon Tracker’s Head of Power & Utilities, Matthew Gray, will be on the second panel on international progress on the coal phase-out in line with the Paris Agreement. Other speakers include Aviva, Hermes, UNPRI, Church of England, LSE Grantham, ITUC.
