Carbon Tracker provided comments on the International Accounting Standards Board’s Exposure Draft: Climate-related and Other Uncertainties in the Financial Statements: Proposed illustrative examples

Often it is not clear to investors whether or how companies have considered the impacts of material climate-related transition matters and uncertainties when preparing their financial statements (for example, when assessing issues such as the recoverability and remaining useful lives of relevant assets, or the measurement and recognition of relevant liabilities). This can directly impact the usefulness of financial reporting. The provision of Illustrative Examples will help improve the reporting (and so investor understanding) of the effects of climate-related (and other) uncertainties on a company’s financial statements.
